MATCH REPORTS :
Cup : lost 3-4 Lenham Wanderers (David Wilson)
BG started well. Pressed for opening goal. Jacob made some exellent saves. Hit by succour punch before halftime and just after, 2-0 down Spirited fightback with my man of the match, Harry impressing all over pitch and scoring. 2-2 Game could have gone either way. Unluckly we lost out 3-4. Midfield worked very hard in second half. With same determination our luck must change.
9th Oct : lost 7-1 to Maidstone Rangers (Ben Jones)
The first half we were strong and kept the ball well. In fact both teams looked very good in the first half as though we were evenly matched. Jacob in goal made a fantastic penalty save but unluckily it was deflected into the Maidstone penalty taker and he knocked it in, but it was close. Jacob also made several other amazing saves during the match. It was 3-0 at half time.
Borough Green took our eyes off the ball and that resulted in numerous goals scored by Maidstone. Borough Green managed to pull one back in the last 10 minutes with an excellent cross by Frankie, enabling Ben to put it in the bottom left corner of the net. Some great clearing from Ruebin and some great heading from Jack saw most of the chances from Maidstone deflected. Oscar was great closing the ball down in strike. Overall Borough Green played well but hopefully we will get a better result next week. Well done Borough Green . Man of match : Oscer
2nd Oct : lost 8- 0 to Park Regis (ARD)
Another sunny Sunday morning with a big home crowd ready to cheer on the boys. The game started evenly but in the fifth minute a ball over the top was met by their number 14 who placed it into the net, 1-0 to Park Regis. They played the same manoeuvre again a few minutes later but Jacob closed the man down well but he still managed to get his shot on target but luckily I was able to clear the ball off the goal line. We seem to get caught out throughout the game by the ball over the top and this is how Park Regis scored their second goal. We also lost the ball quite a lot in midfield. By the end of the first half we were 4-0 down. The manager, back in charge after a week off, tried to lift the team with a rousing team talk at half time but it was not enough. We conceded another four goals in the second half. We did get the ball to the forwards but were unable to finish off with any goals. There were a few positives we can work with for the next match . Man of the man : Frankie
25th September : 3-2 Sittingbourne FC vs Borough Green (Charlie Pratten)
Great Crowd attendance at the Borough Green stadium and The Greens without their usual manager, Pete King, Will Reid Dick and David Wilson stepped in.
First Half: Up-front was David And Oscer playing very well and testing the keeper with some powerful shots. In the midfield was Frankie, Charlie, Scott and Harry, who has just recently joined the club. Charlie and Frankie putting lots of effort in as usual while Scott and Harry making very nice passes creating opportunities for Oscer and David. In defence was Jack, Reuben, Andrew R.D and Nat. Jack and Reubin were solid at the back but their striker was tall and fast and managed to get 2 goals past the amazing goalkeeper Jacob. 2-0 to Sittingbourne! Second Half: Ben was put on the wing making some great passes as-well as some great tackles. Harry Kleinveld was put as striker who managed to pass the ball nicely around to Scott and Frankie. Sittingbourne's striker had a good shot from the edge of the box but Jacob managed to keep it out well. Later on, Sittingbourne got another goal which made it 3-0. The Greens were still fighting. Andrew R.D made a cracking lob to David who then tapped it over the keepers head and into the net. After the first goal the team was motivated which helped them get another goal. Andrew R.D, again, making a great ball in which got on the head of one of the Sittingbourne's defenders which then slipped past the keeper. 3-2, The Greens were fighting back. Despite the effort and hard work Borough Green only just lost 3-2. Man of the match, I would give to Andrew R.D and Ben. And the best supporter given was Frankie's dad, Ian. In the end it was a narrow loss; Borough Green played in good sporting fashion but a few more early nights are required to give the energy that The Greens need.
18th Sep : Drew 2-2 against Boro Green Colts :
With a bigger edge than normal due to PK's misguided comments over the summer , a pulsating local derby ended with a diplomatic 2-2 draw . The Juniors wore their White away kit , with a couple of Fulham , and a few England tops signalling we were expecting to lose ! Oscer made his league debut , and made a big impression in a bruising display up front . In an even first half of few chances , with a dogged display from the defence , Charlie and Frankie running the midfield , and Scott / Jonah beating their guys at will , the half ended at 0-0 . The match came to life in the second half with an astonishing goal from Jonah , which came straight from the training ground (!!!) . David beautifully flicked the ball to Jonah who volleyed into the top left hand corner from fully 25 yards . For 15 mins , we were now well on top , and was no surprise to see us double the lead , with a not so beautiful deflected goal from Frankie ! Unfortunately , we let one in pretty quickly after , and a visibly tiring team came under a lot of pressure . The inevitable equaliser came with 15 mins remaining leaving a grandstand finish , with Jacob making one notable one on one save in the last few mins . We held out for a well deserved draw .
11th Sep : lost 0-2 against Longfield Tigers :
We started the season at home against Longfield . We put up a resolute performance against a physically strong side , with one giant in their side in particular dominating the play , but ultimately lost 2 - 0. Ben Jones made his debut at right midfield , with Jack Selsby making his second debut at right back following his sabbatical . The big lad gave us a taste of what was to come when he nearly broke the crossbar from 30 yards , but luckily the newly installed goalline technology (Matt's dad!) ruled the ball didn’t cross the line . With the wind against us , we were mostly under the cosh , and the highlight of the half was a smart move down the left between Matt and Nat which the keeper saved well . Despite defending well, we conceded the first goal in the first half , and shortly after had Jacob to thank for keeping us in the game - saving from the penalty spot . After a stirring teamtalk from the coach (ie. pointing out we now had the wind behind us!) , we conceded the second right after the restart , leaving a mountain to climb . We pushed forward for most of the half , with Frankie in particular leading the charge , but came up against an inspired keeping performance . Jacob then confirmed his player of the week status by saving a second penalty . A special mention goes out to whoever put up the smaller goalposts , as they hit the crossbar at least 3 times , well done sir !!
